This study shows the limitations of applying group discussion in teaching reading for 3rd grade students at Quai Nua Primary School 2, Tuan Giao district, Dien Bien province: the students are not interested in learning reading with group discussion, the application of this technique has not been tackled with due attention from teachers, leading to unsatisfactory learning outcomes regarding students’ reading exercises. Accordingly, the author proposes 4 measures to apply this teaching technique in teaching reading for 3rd grade students of the school namely setting specific rules for students when participating in discussions, selecting discussion content, selecting appropriate discussing forms.
