In order to promptly respond to societal advancement, training programs in universities and colleges are continuously diversified with many different majors. However, making important decisions regarding major selection can be challenging since students can be overwhelmed by a variety of choices, and the decision-making process can be influenced by various factors. The study has pointed out three main groups of factors affecting major selection process with data collected from 400 students of the University of Economics and Business - Vietnam National University, Hanoi, including: (1) Personal Capacity, strengths and passion; (2) Counseling and orientation of families and teachers; (3) Future career prospects. In addition, the study also assessed the influence of each group of factors and obtained the following results: Group (1) has the greatest impact on students’ decision making, followed by group (3) and finally group (2). The findings can hopefully provide students with a clearer perspective to make decisions on their major, helping them understand what criteria they should consider when choosing a major, thereby having a well-defined and appropriate individual orientation.
