Hiệu quả của Baamboozle trong việc nâng cao khả năng hiểu ngữ pháp cho học sinh tiểu học: Một nghiên cứu tại Trung tâm Anh ngữ Light English
Tóm tắt
Grammar is an integral component of English instruction for young learners, but it is often associated with low engagement and reduced motivation when taught through repetitive and teacher-centered practices. This study examines the effect of Baamboozle on young learners’ grammar comprehension at the Light English Center and explores students’ and teachers’ perceptions of its use. An embedded mixed-methods quasi-experimental design was employed with 40 young students aged 9-10 in two intact classes and 5 teachers as interview informants selected based on their teaching experience and familiarity with Baamboozle to provide pedagogical insights and support data triangulation. Quantitative data were collected through pre-tests, post-tests, and a student questionnaire, while qualitative data were obtained from teachers’ semi-structured interviews and classroom self-observations. The pre-test results indicated that the two groups were comparable at baseline. The experimental group showed greater gains (from 8.20 to 9.45 compared to 8.15 to 8.78 in the control group). The post-test results revealed a statistically significant difference in favor of the experimental group. Students reported positive perceptions across engagement and active learning, motivation, and instant feedback and scaffolding. Similarly, teacher interview findings indicated that Baamboozle was considered a practical and engaging instructional tool, particularly effective in supporting grammar practice and reinforcing previously taught structures. The findings provide preliminary evidence that Baamboozle may be helpful for young students’ grammar comprehension in this context.
