Tóm tắt

Elderly people in care facilities are a vulnerable population group with a high prevalence of mental health disorders, yet their access to mental health services remains limited, especially in developing countries. This study used a descriptive cross-sectional design, combining standardized measures and multiple linear regression analysis to identify barriers and related factors in 372 elderly individuals at four care facilities in Hanoi. The results showed that the biggest barrier was limited awareness of mental health and a lack of understanding of care services. Factors that reduced access barriers included awareness of social support, self-confidence, and frequency of family contact. The results highlight the role of social workers in raising awareness, strengthening support networks and family connections, and show that psychosocial factors are more significant than demographic characteristics in explaining barriers to accessing mental health services for the elderly in centralized care facilities in Vietnam.
