Language is not only a means of communication but also a fundamental component of a community’s cultural identity. The Thanh Hoa dialect preserves distinctive phonetic, lexical, and tonal features that contribute to the richness and diversity of the Vietnamese language. However, in the context of globalization, digital transformation, and increasingly frequent interregional communication, proficiency in Standard Vietnamese pronunciation has become an increasingly important communicative competence for students. This paper examines salient pronunciation features of the Thanh Hoa dialect that may influence students’ academic performance, communication, and future career opportunities. Based on this analysis, the paper proposes pedagogical orientations for developing Standard Vietnamese pronunciation while respecting the linguistic and cultural value of the Thanh Hoa dialect. The study advocates fostering students’ ability to use pronunciation flexibly and appropriately according to different communicative contexts. The findings contribute to the scholarly foundation for language education in regions characterized by distinctive dialectal features while also providing directions for future research and the development of pedagogical models for fostering students’ ability to use Standard Vietnamese pronunciation.
