Tóm tắt

In the context of higher education being oriented towards breakthrough development to meet the demands of international integration, the faculty plays a pivotal role in determining the quality and effectiveness of this process. However, the current state of the faculty still falls short in terms of quantity, quality, and structure. Based on this, the article employs a thematic review method to synthesize research findings from both domestic and international sources, thereby highlighting that developing the faculty through a human resource development approach and integrating a competence-based approach is an inevitable trend in the context of higher education reform today. The integration of these two approaches not only involves a comprehensive review but also contributes to the personal capacite development of faculty members, while enhancing the quality of the faculty as a whole, ensuring adequacy in quantity, structure, and quality. These are two aspects of a single issue, with a dialectical relationship that mutually reinforces each other. Faculty members are the "cells" of the faculty body. When all faculty members meet the required standards, it inevitably lays the foundation for a strong faculty team. This study contributes to clarifying the theoretical basis for faculty development and provides insights for the next steps in building a competency framework for faculty development to meet the demands of digital transformation and international integration today.
