The legal profession is highly practical, requiring a combination of legal knowledge, consulting skills, litigation skills, communication skills, problem-solving skills, professional ethics, and the ability to adapt to the professional context. This study uses a structured narrative literature review method to analyze and synthesize domestic and international studies on professional competence of lawyers, trainee lawyers, experiential legal education and professional competence development through experiential learning. Through the screening process, 21 documents. The findings show that previous studies have clarified the role of legal knowledge, professional skills, ethical responsibility, client communication, problem-solving competence and practice-based learning in legal education. However, systematic research on developing professional competence for trainee lawyers through experiential learning remains limited, especially in the Vietnamese context. Consequently, this study proposes a 4-stage comparative framework based on Kolb’s experiential learning theory to standardize the training process and mentoring mechanisms for trainee lawyers.
