EFL learners struggle with collocations due to overgeneralization, L1 influence, and the gap between collocational knowledge and vocabulary. This calls for more effective teaching methods. This paper reviews various collocation teaching approaches, analyzing their strengths and weaknesses. The findings indicate that while TBLT provides practice opportunities, it lacks systematic structure, whereas CBI promotes deeper understanding but offers limited interaction. Other methods, such as awareness-raising and corpus-based instruction, also have distinct advantages. The paper proposes an integrated model to enhance teaching effectiveness, emphasizing the need to combine explicit and implicit instruction. It also calls for further research on the impact of this integrated model on learners.
