Innovation in English teaching methods is one of the important conditions to ensure the quality of English teaching activities in secondary schools. This article analyzes the current status of innovation in English teaching methods in secondary schools in Trang Bom district, Dong Nai province, based on the approach to the elements of the teaching and learning process, including the goal of innovation in teaching methods, innovation in teaching and learning activities of teachers and students, activities of English professional groups, activities to foster the competence to use active teaching methods for teachers; testing and evaluating English learning outcomes. The survey results show that most of the survey contents are conducted quite regularly and the results are quite good. However, there are still some existing problems and shortcomings such as the limited competence to apply information technology of some teachers, many students do not have effective English learning methods; the organization of seminars on innovative teaching methods, innovative testing, and assessment of students' learning outcomes has not been focused on and the results achieved are not high. The research results will be an important practical basis for proposing measures to improve the effectiveness of innovative teaching methods for English in secondary schools.
