Extensive reading is a required component for developing reading comprehension skills in the 2018 General Education Program, particularly for primary school students. Integrating this content not only enhances knowledge, skills, and educational thinking but also fosters personal growth and character development in learners. This paper proposes several methods for organizing extensive reading activities for 4th-grade students to optimize its role in language development, especially in building reading comprehension skills, expanding vocabulary, and stimulating creative thinking. The research results show that through varied reading activities, students not only strengthen their language knowledge in Vietnamese but also cultivate self-study skills and broaden their understanding of the world, contributing to the establishment of a lifelong reading habit. This holds significant practical value in primary education, supporting teachers in organizing and guiding extensive reading in a scientific, effective way that aligns with the requirements of the 2018 General Education Program while addressing current challenges regarding resources and methods for teaching extensive reading.
