Tóm tắt
In addition to the ability to solve math and science problems, computational thinking also contributes to the development of reading and writing skills. Although information technology is widely applied in the field of education in general and language teaching in particular, the integration of computer science as well as computer thinking is still not common in language teaching. This research aims at forming computer thinking through building and solving various types of exercises on entity models in teaching reading and writing descriptive texts for students majoring in English Pedagogy. In addition to highlighting the advantages of applying the Entity-Relationship (ER) model in reading and writing skills development, we also review the relationships between the components of the ER model with parts of speech. On that basis, the authors propose several types of exercises related to the ER model as well as measures to develop reading and writing skills. Also, we clearly present the constituents of computer thinking that learners can acquire in the process. This approach highlights the usefulness of the ER model in teaching English reading and descriptive writing to primary school English teaching majors, helping them summarize the main ideas of the reading passage and write properly structured descriptive paragraphs.
