The act of asking plays a very important role in communication. However, to understand a questioning statement, it is not possible to rely solely on the verbal elements present in the language. It is essential to associate that statement with the context and the circumstances in which communication takes place. Using descriptive methods and semantic analysis, the study aims to investigate the distinctive characteristics of the non-canonical question in the Italian language. To explain the semantic and pragmatic characteristics of this group of questions, the study utilizes all the contextual factors, as well as situational and cultural context, together with communication purposes. The research results show that the study of Italian non- canonical questions, from a pragmatic point of view, will help Vietnamese learners of Italian improve their ability to communicate as well as correctly use this group of questions in creating speeches in Italian. The study would also serve as the basis for applied research in the field of translation, and can also be used as a reference for students of Italian language and culture.
