According to the 2018 General Education Program for Mathematics, the competence to apply mathematics to real-world situations is one of the core competencies that students need to develop. This research clarifies the concept and manifestations of this ability and proposes three teaching methods for this topic, focusing on developing this competency in students. These methods include: motivating learning through real-world situations; practicing problem-solving skills in real-world situations; and exploring the applications of the topic “Sequences, Arithmetic Progressions, Geometric Progressions” (Mathematics 11) in teaching other subjects. The research results show that these three methods complement each other, facilitating the comprehensive development of the manifestations of the ability to apply mathematics to real-world situations. This research contributes to providing a theoretical basis for organizing the teaching of the topic “Sequences, Arithmetic Progressions, Geometric Progressions” (Mathematics 11) with a focus on developing the ability to apply mathematics to practice, while also suggesting directions for experimental research to verify the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed measures.
