Tóm tắt

Global TALES (Talking About Lived Experiences in Stories) is a protocol for collecting personal narratives from children across diverse linguistic and cultural contexts. This study aims to provide an overview of the Global TALES protocol, analyze existing studies that have utilized it, and discuss its applicability to Vietnamese-speaking children. A descriptive review method was employed to collect, synthesize, and analyze 18 articles based on criteria such as country and language, sample characteristics, data collection format, children’s age and language status, and narrative analysis methods and results. Global TALES has been applied in various linguistic and cultural settings with children of diverse ages and language profiles; data collection can be conducted in-person, online, or via a hybrid approach. Narrative samples are analyzed at both micro- and macro-structural levels, focusing on productivity, lexical diversity, syntactic complexity, grammatical accuracy, coherence, and narrative content. The review findings indicate that Global TALES holds potential for application in the research and assessment of personal narratives among Vietnamese-speaking children. Given the current lack of standardized language assessment tools for Vietnamese-speaking children, this review provides a theoretical foundation for applying Global TALES in clinical practice regarding the assessment and intervention of personal narratives in this population.
