Teaching speech etiquette for foreign students in general and Lao students in particular is one of the key tasks of universities in Vietnam with the aim of helping students adapt quickly to the new learning environment, community relationships as well as other social relationships and expressions of attitudes, behaviors, and gestures that are appropriate for the language they are studying. One of the obstacles to this process is the student's approach to learning. The paper researches teaching methods suitable for language characteristics and students’ characteristics in the process of teaching speech etiquette at Vietnamese universities. The results show that the methods have had a positive effect on the positive and proactive communication, significantly improving the efficiency of learning speech etiquette for Lao students.
