Organizing STEM-oriented scientific discovery activities for 5-6-year-old preschoolers is an educational innovation strategy to equip children with knowledge linked to practical applications. Applying Stone-MacDonald's technical design process, the article proposes a process for organizing scientific discovery activities according to STEM education orientation to develop scientific discovery competence for 5-6-year-old preschool children in Ho Chi Minh City and verify the effectiveness of the organization in practice using pedagogical experimental methods based on 106 children in two preschools in Ho Chi Minh City. The results show that organizing scientific discovery activities oriented towards STEM education is effective in developing the scientific discovery competence of 5-6-year-old preschool children at two schools. Organizing scientific discovery activities oriented towards STEM education should be given importance in the kindergarten period. Teachers can prepare appropriate documents and materials for activities, choose content, methods, means, and forms of scientific discovery according to appropriate STEM education orientation to improve children's scientific discovery competence.
