Tóm tắt
Studying IELTS in Vietnam is now becoming increasingly popular and important for those who want to study and work in English-speaking countries. With the development of the economy and the growing trend of international integration, the demand for high IELTS scores is growing exponentially. This paper reports a study examining the perceptions of high school students’ parents about the International English Language Test System (IELTS). The participants included 70 parents, of whom 15 participated in the interviews. The data was collected using a five-point Likert scale survey and follow-up interviews. The findings reveal a strong consensus among the participants on the main purposes of taking IELTS such as university admission, obtaining a scholarship, and improving English learning experiences. Some misconceptions about the effects of this exam on studying other subjects and other aspects of life are also uncovered. From the findings, the paper recommends some solutions to avoid misconceptions surrounding IELTS, thus providing insights for policy considerations and future research.
