Education was recognized as a key part of promoting sustainable development through changing people's perceptions, attitudes, competences and behaviors. Especially, higher education provides learning, research, nurturing generation that are globally competent, responsible for their actions and for the environment, and thus plays an important role in helping the country achieve its sustainability goals. Higher education for sustainable development has been studied and implemented in recent years in countries around the world. In Vietnam, this transition is just beginning and requires long-term investment. The article focuses on the theoretical basis of higher education for sustainable development and some outstanding examples in the practice of higher education institutions, from which to give some suggestions for higher education institutions in our country. Experiencing sustainability at the school will have the effect of increasing awareness, changing behavior, attitude and maintaining a sustainable lifestyle for students after graduation.
