“Presenting on a social issue using a combination of verbal and non-verbal communicative means” is a newly-integrated and practical teaching point in the 201 8 General Education Literature Program for Grade 10. This content requires students not only to demonstrate proficiency in speaking and listening skills but also to employ appropriate and effective non-verbal means of communication (body language such as facial expressions, gestures, postures as well as audiovisual aids such as pictures, sounds, diagrams and charts). The paper provides teachers with recommendations for organizing teaching classroom presentations on a social issue that incorporate non-verbal communication; accordingly identifying the basis for establishing evaluation criteria for such presentations. Several assessment tools, including rating scale, checklist, and rubric are proposed, both as research outcomes and illustrative examples of the overarching idea explored in the study. Identifying evaluation criteria enables teachers to deliver the instruction on presentations about social issues more effectively.
