Language development for 5-6 years old children is critical to provide children with the best preparation for the first grade. There are many teaching methods and approaches of language development for children, in which language development education through large books (Big books) is a new and effective approach in the current context of Vietnam's education. In this article, we focus on presenting the principles and processes of designing and using Big books in language development for 5-6 years old children. Using Big books will enhance children’s interest in reading, writing, promote their habit of reading books as well as help them discover and acquire the content presented in books. As a consequence, this approach stimulates children’s thinking skills and initiative, while forming and developing necessary language skills for children before moving to a new learning environment in elementary schools.
