5-6 years of age are considered “the golden age” in language development because this is the transition period from playing as the main activity in preschool to learning activities in primary schools. In order to establish a solid knowledge foundation as well as develop necessary language skills for children to enter grade one, it is extremely necessary to promote language development for children of this age in preschools. This is also in line with the current educational transformation toward competency-based approach. On this basis, the study focuses on investigating the actual situation of language development for 5-6 year old children in Can Tho city. Subsequently, the study points out the causes and proposes some solutions to improve educational activities for language development for 5-6 year old children before entering grade one.
