Extensive reading practice by genre is a new content of the 2018 General Program and Textbooks for the Literature subject in order to develop the independent reading capacity, contributing to the development of students' autonomy and self-study competence. In fact, most teachers have not properly identified the objectives and characteristics of extensive reading lessons compared to the conventional reading lessons, which leads to the lack of measures to organize teaching this content in a reasonable and scientific way. This article aims to identify the objectives and characteristics of extensive reading lessons and proposes measures to organize teaching these lessons at high school level in order to meet the objectives and requirements of the 2018 General Education Program for Literature subject.
