Information technology is one of the spearhead branches of modern society. The development of information technology along with the advent of the Internet has drastically and comprehensively changed all areas of social life. In Vietnam, information technology and Internet have deeply penetrated into socio-economic life, showing their important role in many fields, including higher education. The article, after briefly presenting information technology and the Internet, will analyze in depth some basic roles of information technology and Internet in universities in Vietnam, and at the same time point out the factors that affect them. impact on the application of information technology and Internet of universities in the current context. Applying and promoting the role of information technology and the Internet effectively must depend on the awareness and capacity of each higher education institution to be able to develop and integrate in the context of a changing world which develop rapidly under the impact of information technology and the Internet.
