Global citizenship education has become the goal of educational systems around the world. In Vietnam, global citizenship education has been mentioned since the 20th century. However, it was not until the early years of the 21st century that this issue drew social attention and was applied in reality. The 2018 General Education Curriculum, which govern all the school levels in Vietnam, was issued by the Ministry of Education and Training on December 26, 2018 based on the viewpoints of the Party and State on fundamental and comprehensive innovation of education and training; associated with the development needs of the country, the advances of the era in science, technology and society; consistent with the characteristics of Vietnamese people and culture, traditional values of the nation and common values of humanity as well as UNESCO's initiatives and general development orientations on education. This guiding document lays the foundation for a humane, sustainable and prosperous society. In particular, global citizenship education has been integrated into a number of specific subjects, especially the Civic Education Curriculum. The article focuses on analyzing the content of global citizenship education integrated into the 2018 Civic Education program, and at the same time points out some problems and solutions to improve the effectiveness of global citizenship education in the practical implementation of teaching according to the 2018 Civic Education Curriculum.
