Các yếu tố ảnh hưởng đến năng lực viết học thuật tiếng Anh của sinh viên năm thứ nhất: Nghiên cứu tại Trường Đại học Tài nguyên và Môi trường Hà Nội
Tóm tắt
In the context of academic writing skills becoming increasingly essential in higher education, this qualitative study aims to explore factors influencing their academic writing competence in English. Through thematic analysis of focus group interviews with 25 first-year students at a Vietnamese university, the study found that students generally lack critical thinking, academic citation, and research skills - key components that hinder their ability to express complex ideas clearly and academically. The findings also reveal that students’ writing practices are strongly shaped by institutional expectations, prior learning experiences, and disciplinary characteristics. Based on these insights, the study recommends that structured academic writing instruction be strengthened at the secondary level and that universities implement specialized writing support programs to bridge the transition gap between high school and higher education.
