Những yếu tố tác động đến quyết định chọn học phần tự chọn của sinh viên Trường Đại học Công nghiệp Thành phố

The credit-based training system allows students to proactively arrange their study plans in accordance with their majors, available time, and individual competences. However, when selecting elective courses, students often do not give sufficient attention to the decision, resulting in suboptimal academic outcomes and failure to meet the objectives of these courses. This paper explores the factors influencing students’ decisions when choosing elective courses at the Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City, and proposes solutions to help students make better choices, improve academic performance, and achieve the intended outcomes of these courses. The research results indicate that subjective factors including students’ knowledge, grading methods of the course, personality, teaching methods of lecturers, desire for new experiences, personal interests, and competences have a stronger influence than objective factors such as choosing courses based on peer evaluations, studying with former groups, or selecting randomly. Therefore, effective solutions require a coordinated effort among the university, relevant departments, faculties, lecturers, and students. These findings will serve as a valuable reference for all stakeholders in improving the university’s training quality and enhancing the overall teaching and learning experience.
