Nhận thức của giáo viên tiếng Anh tiểu học về việc sử dụng sách giáo khoa trong Chương trình giáo dục phổ thông 2018: Nghiên cứu trường hợp tại tỉnh Ninh Bình

The 2018 General Education Program in Vietnam marks a significant innovation in English language teaching and learning, focusing on comprehensive development of English proficiency, general competencies, and student qualities. A new feature of the program is a multi-book program where teachers are empowered and encouraged to be creative and autonomous in the classroom. This study aims to investigate primary school English teachers’ perceptions of textbooks in the new curriculum. 113 teachers from 50 primary schools in Ninh Binh province participated in the study. Data collection tools included questionnaires and semi-structured interviews. The results show that teachers have a positive attitude towards English textbooks in the 2018 teaching program. They highly appreciate the design, content, integration of language skills, cultural representation, and functional aspects of the textbooks. Additionally, teachers are aware of the curriculum objectives and guidelines provided by the Ministry of Education and Training regarding the use of textbooks. This study plays an important role in expanding understanding of primary school teachers’ perceptions of English textbooks in the 2018 General Education program. The study also proposes recommendations to optimize the use of textbooks and enhance the effectiveness of the 2018 General Education Program.
