Writing paragraphs that are unified, coherent, with flexible use of transitional words and conjunctions is desired by all English- majored freshmen at Tay Bac University. However, a majority of the students encounter difficulty in developing paragraph writing skills. The main reason is that they do not know how to link ideas in a unified way, but only to pair single sentences together. This study offers solutions to help students overcome these difficulties by applying task-based approach into teaching paragraph writing skills with specific steps in a paragraph writing process. Group discussion before finalising the paragraphs helped students eliminate the fragmentation, coupling, lack of consistency and coherence in the paragraphs. This study also helps teachers and students adjust their teaching and learning methods accordingly, in order to maximize the effectiveness of the task-based approach in the process of teaching and learning paragraph writing skills.
