The digital education ecosystem plays an important role for higher education institutions in the context of digital transformation. The authors used secondary document research and in-depth interviews with 25 lecturers and educational experts at a number of universities across the country. The research results have clarified the concept of digital education ecosystems in universities, thereby pointing out new prospects and challenges for Vietnamese higher education. In this study, the digital education ecosystem includes components such as teaching and research, learning community, training programs, digital technology infrastructure, management and digital university governance; from there, the authors present the relationship between the educational environment and the digital education ecosystem. The paper also proposes a number of solutions to develop a digital education ecosystem in Vietnamese universities, in which focusing on building an innovative higher education environment. This study provides a fairly complete understanding of the digital education ecosystem in universities from the perspective of university lecturers and research experts, thereby showing the need for specific requirements and solutions in creating a modern educational environment, meeting the context of the 4.0 Technology Revolution.
