Thanks to open science, which is one of the most critical trends in current academic publication, science from developing countries, including Vietnam is expected to receive the most benefits from exploiting its results. This article examines the quality and level of exploitation related to the open-access practice of Vietnamese educational science journals based on the open journal criteria of the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ). Five of the 14 analyzed journals comply well with the requirements for a quality open-access journal of DOAJ. The levels of compliance with the criteria of transparency of copyright information, licensing, transparency of journal information, transparency of editorial information, and review process are also discussed. It is found out that Vietnamese educational science journals have paid attention to publicizing the full text of articles on the website and ensuring easy and free access. However, practices regarding open licenses and clear presentation of copyright regulations have not been given due attention. These results can be used as a basis for journals to review and improve in line with the best international practices.
